Stomach Flu Treatment and Remedies

One of the first things that a person should do when you feel that you have the stomach flu is to see your local physician. Seeing the doctor isn’t going to help you get medicines to cure your stomach flu, but it will get you a prescription which will help you fight the flu like symptoms, such as antispasmotics for cramps, anti nauseants for vomiting, and it is a good idea to get blood and stool tests done to make certain that it isn’t something worse, like worms. Drinking a lot of fluids is also a good idea, as diarrhea, one of the most common stomach flu symptoms, dehydrates the body of its fluids.

Remedies for Stomach Flu

Some people drink 8-10 glasses of water a day and are still dehydrated and short of electrolytes. It is advisable to have ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), which replenishes the body with essential minerals and ions.

Another major factor for a fast and speedy recovery is simplifying the diet. Infected people should have easily digestible foods, such as white bread, apple sauce, bananas and yogurt. Greasy, acidic and alcoholic foods should be avoided at all costs, as they can irritate the intestine.

Doctors also advise resting, as the patients nutritional intake is extremely low during the stomach flu and the body is running on reserve, which is why most people with gastroenteritis spend the first couple of weeks on complete bed rest
